Things you just can’t believe. It rained a bit last night. Seriously! Listening to the rain fall on the roof of the van is much like the patter of rain on a cottage tin roof. Peaceful for a bit, and then you just want to get to sleep! By the time I got out for my morning walk, the grass, driveways and streets were dry. This despite the 7C overnight temperature. I headed over to the neighbouring ‘hood where AllTrails said there was a trail. I had googled trail closures in Colchester County to ensure the trails here are not closed. And they are not. That mistake could cost you $25,000 these days. The trailhead was about 1.5km from our mooch docking location. It was a lovely little trail running along the salmon river. Not super long, a decent amount of up and down. The river bank is quite steep so I didn’t attempt to get down to the water and harvest some salmon grizzly bear style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today’s plan was to do as little as possible. Spoiler! We accomplished that! Mrs Milddogs did a bit of provisioning while Amy and I stayed back house sitting. At one point Amy got a little frenzied when some deer friends appeared in the back yard. This was our second deer visit of the day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deer in the picture above stayed for over an hour. Later in the day the deer buddies came back and I went out on the deck to get some pictures. You can click pictures to enlarge them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had intended to get out on the Brompton, but the wind was consistent around 20km\/h and I wasn’t sure I wanted to deal with that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to all of that excitement, we did some general maintenance of our host’s property. A few repairs, a little gardening. We also attempted to eat far too much food. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nova Scotia Stampede is happening right now, yee haw! It’s not too close, but close enough that you car hear the country music headliner’s muffled performances. Can’t say if they would sound better up close. I will never know. For the record I have gone to Dwight Yoakam (twice) and Steve Earle concerts back in the day. Both of those performers were amazing. Steve Earle was at Barrymore’s in approximately 1986 or 1987. Just after the Guitar Town release. That amazing show did justice to that amazing album. So I can get my country on, just not Billy Beltbuckle and F150 Pitbull Shotguns with their hit song “Daisy Dukes, Cigars, Shitty Boots and Welfare Checks is my kind of Lady”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tomorrow we head to the coast. Maybe we will see some marine mammals. Maybe we will brave the cold ocean water for a swim. My brother-in-law tells me that the waters of the Northumberland Strait are the warmest north of Massachusetts. And, in the words of the modern philosopher PhillyandKeely, you never regret a swim<\/a>. <-shop at your own risk<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s enough rambling. Sorry to all of the fans of Billy Beltbuckle and F150 Pitbull Shotguns, I’ll buy you a Bud Light next time we meet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
