Arizona 2024: Day 9: Boles Acres, NM: It’s Oliver, not Robert!

Realized on this trip we entered Texas through Texola and exited through Texico. True story.

Pretty good night sleep in the municipal park near the little lake. At some point somebody drove past us slowly with the music blaring. We used about 2% of our propane capacity keeping the van warm last night. When I emerged from our tin cocoon (without Tahnee Welch) at around 0800, all the other campers had left. Where did they go? Why up so early? Took a walk around the lake at a good pace.

We had our breakfast, quickly packed up and hit the road to Oliver Lee State Park. We took the road less traveled between Fort Sumner, NM and Roswell, NM. It was perfectly straight. I should really grab some images off of the dash cam, but that takes work. We saw a lot of cows and a lot of antelope. They seem to like hanging out together. We did not see aliens, unless they were the cows and antelope. In the drive on state highway 20, which was about an hour, we saw 5 other vehicles. Dear Canada, we had full 5G the entire way, despite not much in the way of people there.

We stopped in Roswell for some fuel and for Amy to do her thing. She got a thorn in her foot so she abandoned doing her thing. Thorn removed, back on the road we go.

We had chosen the route through Cloudcroft, NM this time as we had not taken in before. Was a nice drive. Many places in Cloudcroft are closed on Monday, so no Tacos for us 🙁 We did get some cinnamon buns from the lesser bakery as the greater bakery had sold out. The lesser bakery cinnamon buns are not worth it.

Mrs Milddogs took a few pics as we descended from Cloudcroft towards the west. Very picturesque!

We arrived at Oliver Lee State Park (I often refer to it as Robert Lee State Park) mid afternoon and quickly set up. We were here 2 years ago and really like it. Only here for one night though.

After dinner Amy had a bit of a hair cut. I am not sure she enjoyed it. The job is not complete.

Showers here rate a 6 out of 10. Why? Well, they aren’t super clean, but the water was warm enough and the privacy was good enough that people would really have to work at checking out your stuff. I should look up what I rated them last time.

Tomorrow we head out to our next spot. We will pass White Sands, Los Cruces and some other cool spots. Got stuff to do, enjoy your day!
