Day 35: Plains undulate: Quitaque, TX to Tulas, OK

Yup, still “Kitty Quay”.

Short post today as it was mostly driving.

Morning walk was relaxed. It was a good temp at 13C but very strong winds made the path home more work than it should have been. I did the Canyon Rim trail which is pretty flat. The highlight was seeing these buddies from two sides (the path is a loop). Fortunately they were not on the trail.

In between bison sightings a selfie on the canyon rim. This is not the same side of the canyon that the Eagle Peak trail goes into.

Upon returning to the van, Mrs Milddogs had things mostly ready to go. As we were prepping the neighbour across the street (wind damaged trailer dude) who I think may have been augmented by crystal meth or something told me he caught a 5 foot rattle snake on the Eagle Point trail yesterday. He was going out again with his snake hook to find more.

Oh, Bernice next door was quiet last night. She did feel the need to use her outdoor voice at 0800 but Amy had us awake by then.

After a safe and rewarding tank dump we exited the park as another herd of bison gathered to say goodbye (no pictures, just dashcam video – not posted). Thank you bison, we shall miss you too!

We took a bunch of backroads northeast as we headed towards highway 40. We were thankful when we were going northeast as it kept the wind on our stern. But there was a bunch of wandering about when we were heading due east with the wind on a broad / beam reach. Memphis, TX looked like a cool little town. We saw a buck mule deer cross the road in front of us. It had a decent set of antlers and kindly decided not to jump into our path.

We made a few stops for gas and food and relax and Amy outside time. Otherwise, an uneventful drive to Oklahoma. The plains of Oklahoma were not as exciting as other things we have seen. The do undulate a fair amount.

We decided to attempt a Cracker Barrel camp in the east side of Tulsa. It’s been a while since we were “in the city” so hopefully the noise won’t bother us much.

For dinner, Mrs Milddogs picked up Cracker Barrel and I went over to get some takeout from the McDonalds that is 60m away. Nope. The dinning room is closed. So I left without bounty. Can’t take the van through the drive thru and it wasn’t worth it no matter how great dollar drink days are. Kindly, Mrs Milddogs shared her Cracker Barrel with me.

Tomorrow we are heading to a state park near St Louis, MO. Mrs Milddogs already has scoped out where we are picking up our BBQ takeout for dinner.

Nice and warm here so no furnace needed tonight!

We are closing in on 10,000 total kms for the trip. Looks like some rain up ahead. The van could use a wash.

Keep it real!

Interactive map, cause we moved.
