Texas 2023: Epilogue. Milddogs are home still

Howdy, Been a while. We are home, in case that was not clear. Living in a space larger than 85 square feet. So much room.

In total we drove 8714 km. Seems like a lot, but not as much as last time. We averaged 14.41 litres/100km or 16.32 mpg(US). Our average speed was 83 km/h or 51.57 mph. We drove for a little over 100 hours. It’s not polite to ask how much we spent on gasoline. That and I don’t keep track.

We stayed at a bunch of spots. Some good, some bad. Where would we go again? Palo Duro, Cap Rock Canyons, Goose Island if the weather is good. Where won’t we go again? Mustang Island State Park.

We ate some BBQ. Some good, some bad. Here they are ranked in order of best to not as best.

Terry Black’s BBQ Lockhart, TX Was pretty good. Facility was impressive. Would go again.
Missouri Hick BBQ, Cuba, Mo, Second time there. It’s good. But they serve the brisket shredded so that is a bit of a cheat. Would go again.
Rudy’s BBQ, Yes it is a chain, kind of like Mission BBQ. But it is pretty good and the staff is super friendly
Buc-ee’s, Somewhere in TX or everywhere in TX. OK, it’s a gas station / huge store. But the shredded brisket sandwich hit the spot and the cane sugar based fake Coca-Cola for $0.79 was pretty darn good too. Would go again.
Smolik’s BBQ, Mathis, TX It was a tad grubby inside and the food was ok. I wouldn’t go back.
Whatever that place was at the gas station on the way down. No. bad idea. Brisket was dry and tough. Go to Sonic instead.

Map trip good

What’s next? It’s pretty much summer weather. Time to sail and enjoy the lake. We shall do some van mods and some maintenance. Recalls seem to be piling up. Next trips will be short excursions to visit family. Then we can plan some week long adventures for the fall. If you are looking to follow some more adventurous people, the crew over at ourviewfromtheroad.blog are heading out soon. Check them out.

I still “need” to get an e-bike. Wise dude at work said non “e” bikes are much lighter. How does that matter?

May peace be with you.
