NS 2025: Day 2: Fredericton, NB: A Tiny Lighthouse

Sorry about the delay getting this most compelling post up. The downside to deferring is I must rely on my memory even more. That’s a recipe for poetic licence!

Sleeping in a parking lot in Levis was quite peaceful. As the morning broke, I remained completely silent until 08:00 and then headed out for my walk. I usually target 3.5km or 30 minutes when we are van lifing it. I headed west along a road that runs along the river. I passed several wonderful city parks right on water’s edge. Levis seems to know how to do parks.

Back to the van and time to get ready to hit the road. We had decided to abandon the trans Canada and travel along the shore roads. It’s a much more pleasing drive, if not a tad slower. Our first stop was a piscinerie in Kamouraska, QC called Pecheries Ouellet. Mrs Mildogs went in and loaded up on some stuff that I don’t eat. She seemed enthusiastic about the hawk. Amy and I stayed outside and guarded the location agains fish thieves.

Fish in van, we hit the road to find a picnic spot. Mrs Milddogs selected the tiny little lighthouse in St-Andre-de-Kamouraska, QC. It was at the end of a slightly hidden dirt road. The walk to the lighthouse was nice and short. We observed the St Lawrence river for a bit and then went back to picnic. Note that you can go inside the little lighthouse. Amy really wanted to, but we did not bring her in. Picnic lunch was baguette avec buerre d’ail et dinde.

Post picnic we went into making distance mode as we turned south in Quebec towards New Brunswick.

As we passed over a river, Mrs Milddogs saw a bear standing on a sandbank down below. I did not observe this as I was continuing to observe the road. Note that if you have never driven this part of the country, it is pretty darn hilly. Fast down, slow up. Our heavy van makes it even more interesting than usual.

There were no stops at boulangeries nor patisseries on this day! Sad face.

Our destination for the night was my Aunt and Uncle’s house in Fredericton. Conveniently they have a flat(ish) driveway and a willingness to tolerate us. We arrived at 17:42 (12 minutes behind schedule) and despite our lack of showers for a few days, they welcomed us with hugs, cold beverages, a wonderful meal and great conversations.

Off to bed we went for a quiet night in Fredericton.

Tomorrow shall bring more adventures.

My tomato is your tomato.
