NS 2025: Day 5: Bridgetown, NS: Pebble Beach
Howdy, lovely sleep last night. It wasn’t too chilly. We failed to hear any wildlife up here on the mountain top.
Morning walk was laps around the hilly roads of the campground. We followed that with a slow preparation to head to Hampton beach for the day. Hampton beach is on the other side of the mountain. It’s a straight shot down the mountain with a left turn, then a right turn, then a left turn. We were mostly there by ourselves throughout the day.

The diversity of the stones on the beach was amazing. We spent a big part of the day wandering around spotting different cool stones and occasionally fondling them. Here are some pictures.

The weather was a bit iffy at the beginning and we got a tiny amount of rain. We contemplated heading back to the campground but ultimately decided that rain at oceanside was likely better than rain at the campground. Good that we did as it cleared up nicely. I saw a seal’s head (hopefully still attached to a seal) and Mrs Milddogs saw a whale out in the distance while scanning the bay with binoculars.
Amy had a good time exploring on her own (we never let her roam free, but with controlled access and nobody else around, it was pretty safe for her to drag her leash around.

There was a pictograph on one of the rocks forming part of the harbour’s breakwater. I assume this one was from the snooponian period.

We also found a pair of Pokemon socks. Gotta catch them all! We left them there hoping the rightful owner would return to claim them.

We arrived at the beach at what we thought was low tide, alas, it was basically mid tide as there was still plenty of water still to follow the moon out. Sadly I shot this fishing boat from two different angles, but you can see how low the water got in the harbour.

Around dinner time we headed back to the campground. We got as level as we could and Mrs Milddogs set about making dinner. Farouz was the dish of the day. Mmmm.
Post dinner it was shower time and my expectations from yesterday only set me up for disappointment. It was pretty good. Plenty of hot water and privacy, but some people before me had left it in an imperfect state. So let’s go 7/10.
One last cupcake (salted caramel) and that was it for our last crop of baked goods.
Tomorrow we head further east. There are bakeries, orchards and seafood places along the way. Oh, some great sites to see as well! We shall follow the coast wherever possible as we meander around this spectacular province.
Keep on vanning!
