NS 2025: Day 3: Digby, NS: Ferry time!
There are some paths near our hosts so I hit those for my morning walk. Was nice not be on roads. No pictures, cause, well, I forgot.
We packed up and got ready, went inside the big house to say goodbye and to leave a few tomatoes that Mrs Milddogs brought from her garden. Later, we got pictures from my uncle of the gorgeous tomato sandwich he made with them.

First stop was Sobey’s to get a few essentials. Things like a rotisserie chicken for Amy, cause she really likes them. She goes off food at the beginning of van trips so we bribe her with the good stuff. Post Sobey’s we went to Sobey’s gas bar to fill up the van. Then we ended up at a bakery called Buttercream Dreams. Now here was the first mistake of the day. Mrs Milddogs let me go in unsupervised. Did you know that in New Brunswick, maybe elsewhere, there is no tax if you buy six? So, I bought six cupcakes, and six donuts and pretty much almost added a six pack of pretzels. I might not lose weight on this trip.

We ventured down to Saint John, NB to catch the 14:15 ferry to Digby, NS. I definitely did not get a bit lost looking for the ferry terminal. Left rather than right. I like ferries. Perhaps not as much as the Cottingley sisters, but I still really like them. They make a drive an adventure.
We boarded on time and took Amy up to the exterior of the 7th deck. That’s where puppies are allowed to be. Or they have to be in a kennel on the ship or in your vehicle. Amy did her best to pretend she was a dog as she met other real dogs on our pup deck. Fortunately, was not a poop deck!

Bay of Fundy was as smooth as glass for the entire 2 hours. We were lucky as we saw some whales and dolphins. Whales were off in the distance a bit, but there were plenty of itty bitty dolphins close by and in the distance. Thank you sea mammals, always wonderful to see you.
We landed in Digby, on time and headed the 5 km to our campground. A real one. But maybe a bit too real for us. Perhaps this was the second mistake of the day. Upon checking in we modified our reservation from one two nights to one. Post check in, we found our site and shoehorned our way between our neighbours. Mrs Milddogs did note that this campground is better than the private one in Taddousac, QC.
Wait, Carla’s closes in 23 minutes. Back out we went to Carla’s Fish and Stuff to pick up some dinner. Mrs Milddogs did the ordering while hungry and selected a large Fish and Chips for me, some fried Digby Scallops and a lobster roll for her. Maybe the quantity of food was the third mistake of the day (no, not really). We ate back at our campsite at our provided table with Mrs Milddogs resting her back on the neighbour’s RV trailer. Food was lovely and we have plenty of left overs! Oh, Amy had some of her Sobey’s rotisserie chicken for dinner.

After dinner I hooked up the electricity and water to the van. Then we waddled down to the beach just down the road from the campground. Amy had fun smelling everything. Pretty sure we saw a seal bobbing around out there.

Here are some pictures of our campsite. It’s a fine campground, it’s just not our cup of tea.

Post dinner and beach walk it was time to try the cupcakes. As the donuts had already been sampled throughout the day. Now here was the fourth mistake of the day. The cupcakes had shifted during our travels and the salted caramel one was decapitated while others were shifted about.

Cupcakes were good. Icing was great, cake part was acceptable. Still have four more to eat 🙂
Shower time. Felt great to be clean after a few days on the road. Showers. Definite 9/10. I’m not just saying that as it was great to de-stink. They are new, clean and private. Some would say that despite their relatively small size, they are larger than our campsite! Mrs Milddogs has concurred with our rating!
Tomorrow we head off eastward along the northern coast of Nova Scotia.
Where is my donut?
