NS 2025: Day 10: Northport, NS: The return of Fish and Chips!
Morning was overcast but an acceptable 12 degrees (that means T-shirt weather for the morning walk). I got a late start (cause vacation) and headed out along the highway again. I went a bit further this time up past the school. Along the way I met 3 citizens that were cleaning up the garbage along the road. I thanked them for their service as we passed. After I turned around I passed them again and doubled down on my thanks before tossing my empty water bottle on the road. No, I didn’t do that. The water bottle was almost empty. Stop! I didn’t even have a water bottle.
I attempted to take some pictures to show how deep the ruts in the roads can be here. I have to be careful criticizing the roads as back in the day Mrs Milddogs grandfather built a lot of roads in Nova Scotia. His roads are fine! You can try and avoid the rut but the drop from the paved surface to the narrow gravel shoulder is often 6 inches or so. Keeps you on high alert.

We spent the cloudy day staring at the ocean (still no mammal sightings). Mrs Milddogs sister (MMS) popped by and we all had a lovely time visiting. I shared my eagle picture from the other day with MMS and she was surprisingly not impressed.
By late afternoon we decided to head to Port Howe to visit the lobster pound (Chase’s) and pick up some fish and chips to go at the Sandpiper. Yup, I’m back on the fish and chips. Those that know the Sandpiper have already figured out that we definitely also got chocolate milkshakes. OMG, they are the best. It has been well over a decade since I was last here and my memories of the milkshakes were not exaggerated. I should mention that the van and Amy stayed “home” and we took Mrs Milddogs mother’s (MMM) car on this short trip.

The fish and chips from the Sandpiper was the best of the trip. Mrs Milddogs picked up some live lobster that I forgot to take pictures of.
Most of my pictures of the area have been at lower tide as I think it is more interesting. Here are some from high tide. I should have done a timelapse.

Post dinner Mrs Milddogs and I took another romantic sunset stroll on the beach. Amy would have none of it and ran back to the house again.

Did not see any deer today, but there was a whole collection of Herons

It’s pretty much time for us to head home. Tomorrow morning we will pack everything up, dump the tanks and start the return trip. We have a few adventures planned along the way and they better include some baked goods. I’ll try to post a link to MMS’ insta. Check out her photography. No posts on the insta and I don’t post links to FaceBook
And now you know more of the story. Toodles.
