Day 3: Does anyone really know what time it is: Chattanooga, TN to Birmingham, AL

Alabama, why did you do this? I was ill-prepared for a time change. Our Garmin 890 GPS was obviously broken. 2.5 hours of travel and an arrival time in 1.5 hours. That doesn’t make any sense. Fortunately Waze had the “correct” arrival time. Until we hit the Alabama border. Dang, it’s like a whole different time zone here. Well done, Garmin! What we need is a huge repository of knowledge where I can search for these things and not be surprised so often. Maybe surprises are good.

This story reminds me a bit of the time number 1 child and I were out for a sail. I was 100% sure that my natural compass had us going South (I have selectively forgotten the true fact). He pointed out that the compass and two GPSs, which all agreed, did not agree with my perception of which way South was. This younger generation and their fancy tools!

The day started out fine. I walked the sidewalks along the busy roads of the burbs of Chattanooga. The Walmart near us has a parking lot circumference of 1.05 km. It was coolish on Monday night. We did not turn the heater on in the van and we were fine. Cracker Barrel was good to us again.

We did provisions at Walmart and picked up a cushion for Amy and some bowls at Big Lots. We stopped at a very nice rest stop in Georgia and had a relaxed lunch. It was my fourth meal from the chicken caesar salad I got in Syracuse. So far, so good 🙂 The long break had nothing to do with a time change and potentially arriving early at our camp ground. Honestly!

We aren’t really in Birmingham. We are at a state park called Oak Mountain State Park. It seems nice. So far it has rained pretty much since we got here. We have taken advantage of the amenities to de-winterize the van the rest of the way. Mistakes were made. Minor blood loss, but all fine in the end.

We had showers!

This is our campsite.

Fire pit and table are set back from the site.

Tomorrow will be the first dump of the tanks. I always think of the movie “RV”. “they aren’t the ones covered in feces, are they?”

We get 34 channels at the state park. So, the TV is on with old westerns to entertain us in the rain while we research tomorrow’s destination. Hint, might be a Cracker Barrel north of NOLA. We are getting within striking distance of NOLA. Visiting is one of those “must do” things. We plan to park and walk around for a few hours and then get out.

I have an Idea for the WWE. Not at all inspired by my “TV” watching habits. Elizabeth Holmes vs Anna Delvey for some fake WWE “title”. Refereed by the Tinder Swindler idiot. But, in the spontaneous script Anna and Elizabeth could band together and beat the crap out of Tinder Swindler idiot. Only works if he isn’t in on the gig. Would be a classic. A fraudulent title fought for by a couple of alleged fraud artists refereed by a fraud.

I 3D printed some mods before we left. With warmer weather I have had opportunity to affix some.

Since we have electricity tonight we have the hot water heater and the furnace on. Helps dry out all the wet stuff. Hopefully tomorrow it will dry up enough so we can take Amy on a long walk.

Cell coverage is a bit challenging here. That’s all for now!
